Clay is a product of the weathering of the Earth’s crust. These ceramic works are made from wild clay collected near volcanic regions, blended with industrial clay, with mineral particles added partially on the surface as decoration. The complexity created by the use of wild clay and natural minerals in ceramics continues to astonish us, and extends into our work with intangible qualities; working with wild clay helps us to understand and connect with the environment we live in.

Wild clay ceramics is a long-term research project of soorigusun. We continuously collect wild clay from different volcanic and geological regions and document its mineral composition, particle structure, and firing responses. This project will be continuously updated through ongoing field research and material experiments.
